Hello! Welcome to my blog! I'm excited to start this process. I hope to write every few days with what I'm doing in Israel and any thoughts or observations I have along the way. Thank you in advance for reading!
So this is really a two part post as kind of a precursor to the actual travel. First, as the title suggests, I want to set an intention for this trip. A good friend of mine recently reminded me of the value of setting intentions. (His intention was to 'Look for Lightbulbs' in children he was instructing). I have done a good amount of yoga throughout the past couple of years and a lot of instructors suggest you set an intention at the beginning of the practice. This can be something like 'strength,' 'perseverance,' 'peace,' or any other attribute you want to gain/accomplish during the 60 minute practice. I want to do something similar for this trip. So here it is, my intention for the next ten months: personal growth. It's a broad word I know, but I think it encompasses really the whole reason I'm going on this trip. I want to grow in intellect, in compassion, in worldliness, in experiences, in open-mindedness, and really just generally grow to be a better person who is more aware of, and sensitive to, others' perspectives. It's a tall order, but I'm eager and excited.
The second part of this blog is really just to express my gratitude for the people that I have had in my life lately and their words of encouragement in helping me with this trip. I would say I feel blessed, but we all know that isn't something I would say, so I will say that I feel very honored (and perhaps a little undeserving). I'm not going to mention names, but the amount and quality of people who have spent time and money with me before I leave has really been incredible. I am endlessly appreciative for the people in my life and the experiences I got to share with them this summer. Thank you all and I will carry you with me always while I'm gone.
Anyway thank you again for reading and I will write again during or after my crazy 24 hour day of travel!
So excited for you Tobe! Sounds like your mindset and intentions are in the right spot - what a great way to begin your non-school adult life :)
ReplyDeleteAnd cant wait to read all the updates. Enjoy!!
Things to remember...
ReplyDelete1. Shalom has 3 meanings and comes in handy most of the time. You can welcome someone with it, love someone with it, and tell someone to 'hit the road with'. Use it.
2. When teaching, a smile and humility will get you through most situations.
3. DOn't give out anymore homework than you want to grade.
and finally...
4. I love you and be safe. You are the toughest chick I know but you are going to a dangerous place. DOn't flirt with danger.
It will be an exciting journey for all of us here following along on your adventures there. We will miss you much but will live vicariously through you and your next 10 months. Much love, mom
ReplyDeleteBest wishes on your journey. You will find what you're looking for and more.
